Getting started
How does weekly in-home meal prep work?
Once a week we come to your home and cook your set number of meals from groceries you buy using the list we send ahead. We portion everything into labeled foil pans with lids, refrigerate or freeze it, and clean the kitchen before we leave.
What kind of food do you cook?
Ethiopian home cooking only — dishes like doro wat, misir wat, shiro, gomen and more. Spice levels range from mild to fiery, and we plan the menu with you.
How do I pay?
After your consultation we send you a quote and an invoice. There is no online checkout.
Groceries & menu
Who buys the groceries?
You do. We send you a grocery list a few days before each visit so everything is ready when we arrive. If you would rather not shop, our grocery shopping service is available for $50 per visit plus groceries at cost.
What if I can't find an ingredient?
Let us know in advance and we will substitute. If we aren't told ahead of time, we'll skip that dish for the visit.
Do you have dishes for Ethiopian Orthodox fasting days?
Yes. Our vegan fasting dishes — such as misir wat, kik alicha, shiro, gomen, atkilt wat and fosolia — are made without meat, dairy or eggs and fit Ethiopian Orthodox fasting days.
Can you work around food allergies?
Please tell us about any allergies before your first visit. We cook in your home kitchen, so we can't guarantee it is allergen-free.
Visits & scheduling
How long does a visit take?
A typical visit takes 3–5 hours, depending on your plan and menu.
Do you bring your own equipment?
We use your cookware and bring a couple of our own pots and pans if needed.
Can I reschedule a visit?
Yes — there are no rescheduling fees. Just let us know in advance.
Can I get service every other week?
Yes. Service is a recurring weekly slot by default; every-other-week service is available for an additional 10% per visit. Holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Genna and Fasika) are an additional 15% per visit.
What areas do you serve?
The DMV: Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William), all of Washington, DC, and parts of Maryland (Montgomery and Prince George's). Travel is free in our core service area and $25 per visit beyond it.
Food safety
How long does the food keep?
Every pan is labeled with the dish, the date and reheating instructions.
Refrigerated meals are best eaten within 3–4 days. Frozen meals are best within 2–3 months. Always reheat to 165°F.
Pricing
Is there a discount for the first visit?
Yes — your first visit is 20% off, with no commitment. You can also save 5% by prepaying 4 visits.
Catering
Do you cater events?
Yes. Catering is quoted per event for 20–200 guests. Some dishes, like kitfo, are available for catering only and not for meal prep.
